the next ten days. ohio is perhaps the most important of them, especially for governor romney. because no republican candidate has won the white house, alex, without winning this state. last night as you mentioned, he and paul ryan held a huge rally in north canton last night, about 8,000 people according to the campaign braved some pretty brisk temperatures. the governor is asking for their help in this state because the latest cnn poll just out a few days ago shows that the president is up four points. 50-46. now that lead is about half of what it was a few weeks ago. so the governor has chipped away at that lead but still has a ways to go. they want to get their graund game out, get people out to early vote and then get people out to the polls on november 6th. governor romney is going to campaign with florida senator marco rubio and paul ryan is going to hit this state hard over the next 48 hours. they really expect to win here. rob portman, who was governor romney's debate partner, is the chair of the romney team here in ohio. he feels a lot of pressure to deliver this state and he

to elect mitt romney and paul ryan the next president and vice president of the united states? as always a great crowd in ohio. this is outstanding. i've done a lot of campaign rallies over the past couple of weeks and i've decided i've boiled my reasons for supporting mitt romney and paul ryan down to three reasons. the first, president obama comes to ohio and likes to take credit for getting our state back on track. but we know that's not true. it's the work that the governor and i have done with all of you to balance our budget and get our state back on track. we didn't raise taxes, we cut taxes. [applause] here is my second reason and this one is personal for me. my youngest son is 18-year-old and he voted for the first time this year in a presidential election. a couple of weeks ago before a friday night football game his friend were at our house and they were in his room and i decided i wonder when they're talking about, girls, the football game t next concert they're going to go to, maybe kid rock. but i went upstairs and i was listening outside the door and they didn't know i was

romney and the state next door, massachusetts, where he was governor. i think that is less of a factor. i think the people of new hampshire can see beyond that and are voting for the person they think is best for the 50 states. host: tell us about the history of new hampshire being a swing state. guest: traditionally, new hampshire was very solidly republican for many years. recently, i think it is sort of the clinton 1992 phenomenon that has changed that. he one the state twice. in 2000 it went to george w. bush. kerrey., john care the president got a nine point victory in 2008. we really are tossups state. the polls go back and forth. it is difficult to determine who is going to win this state right now. host: is there early voting and how do the hampshire residents vote on election day? guest: there's not early voting, but there's absentee ballot. you have to sign a form saying you are not going to be available on voting day to come to the polls. traditionally, the polls are open from about 7:00 until 7:00. some locations are open until 8:00 p.m. on election day. we have one of the hig

romney is next door to northwest ohio. romney is campaigning in florida today. virginia tomorrow. and those are two states that he has to win and two states that two weeks ago seemed to be trending ever so slightly to romney. so what about all this talk of expanding the map? most campaigns are now advertising in three new normally reliable democratic states but they're leaning democratic states. let's not pretend they're solid. then this morning a new detroit news poll of likely voters has in michigan showed the president leading romney but only by three points. a new franklin and marshall poll in pennsylvania shows the president up by just four points. this week a minneapolis star tribune poll showed a three-point race in minnesota. the romney campaign says this is evidence they have expanded the map. the obama campaign says this expansion of advertising shows it's a sign that romney has run out of routes to 270 electoral routes in the nine battlegrounds and needs more ways to get there, so they're throwing hail marys. expanding the map is something the romney campaign has tried
